Brighton Rainbow – Do Infinite Good
Every Can Counts
Brighton & Hove littering rates increase by 267% this summer with 11 tonnes of rubbish collected from the beach in just one day as lockdown restrictions ease and thousands flock to the seaside.
We worked with Every Can Counts and Brighton and Hove Council to create this impressive Brighton rainbow on the seafront, as a tribute to key workers, and to highlight the benefits that can be achieved by recycling valuable aluminium drinks cans, rather than littering them. ‘Do infinite good’ as well as a positive affirming statement also refers to the fact you can endlessly recycle aluminium, ucrrently 76% of aluminium drinks cans are recycled in the UK – ECC’s mission is to get it up to 100%.
The giant structure was created using sustainable materials and over 2,000 recycled cans. We completed the seaside display by building golden can-shaped recycling bins, branded information boards and installing temporary chalk stencils to lead the way. The towering rainbow stands 7m tall against the seafront, (in between the i360 and upside-down house), providing a perfect photo opportunity come rain or shine – see the special build rainbow on display until 12 September 2020.
